Emancipating, Empowering Women for Independent Living

Nigeria supposedly a rich country has turned her citizens into peasants. About 70% of Nigerians live below the poverty line, living on about one dollar a day in a country that is the seventh oil producing country in the world. Corruption has permeated the country to such an extent that young girls have become the latest victims of sex abuse by rich predators who use them to gratify their sexual desires. The result has been increase not only on early pregnancies and unwed mothers but also of HIV victims. The southern part of Kaduna State and the Middle Belt is said to have very high cases of HIV/AIDS. Poverty is said to be the main factor in this area. The Women Development Center emancipates and empowers young women who have  been forced to drop out of school due to early pregnancies or are living with HIV/AIDS to have a life of hope and becoming independent. It also helps young women who have finished high school are are not able to further their education or find jobs. Through the center, young women are trained and provided with vocational skills that will help them to be self-employed through a special loan scheme.
