MK and Orphan School
It is sad that Missionaries and other Christian workers who work in rural areas have to put their children at risk. During my research as a doctoral student in rural villages in Northern Nigeria, I came in contact with missionary kids that walked about eight kilometers (five miles) to the nearest school. When it rained, they stayed home because there were rivers and trenches to cross and some kids were known to have drowned on their way to school in such rivers and trenches. I was personally touched to learn from some missionaries that their kids go to school for less than four months in the year. This informed the need for a Missionary Kids (MKs) school to arrest the problem. Beyond this, Muslim converts kids need sound education under a protected environment. In addition to this problem, the scourge of HIV/AIDS has rendered many children parentless. No child should be deprived of high quality education because of circumstances of birth or a situation that was not his/her making. The Missionary Kids and Orphans School will offer high quality education at free or reduced cost to missionary kids and orphans. Children have opportunity to receive high quality education that prepares them for university and other higher institutions admission. The school, when operational will offer program leading to the Senior Secondary School Exam (WAEC SSCE and NECO Exam). The school emphasizes strong leadership skills under a caring and Christian nurturing environment.
At the MKs and Orphans school, children are cared for in the most unique manner, giving them opportunity to be nurtured in a safe and Christian environment. Children are allowed to be children, enjoying their childhood at the same time being prepared to be the future leaders of the church and society at large. They have the opportunity to develop educational skills of the 21st century that include early exposure to high-tech in the belief that such exposure will offer them skills for the work place and personal skills to function in the world of the future. The ultra-modern science and computer laboratories will help children to appreciate the importance of science and technology as well as use of computer skills early in life. We offer a comprehensive Pre-12 (pre-school through Senior Secondary School) which prepares our students for the challenge of the modern university. We emphasize high academic achievement in a Christian environment. Students are encouraged and taught to understand the meaning and importance of an early faith walk with Christ. A well-equipped library that offers students opportunities for self-study and research will serve not only the school but also the community as well as other area schools.
