MALI The State of Christianity

The level of Christianity in Mali is very low even though the country has an open door policy on religion. Islam is strong both in the north and central regions, while traditional religion is strong in the south, thus, Christianity is relegated to the background. The Christian population is about 1.92% of the total population of about 11 million.

 Political Climate

This country gained independence in 1960 from France and was subsequently ruled by military dictators. Due to public protest in 1991, military dictatorship gave way for a multi party democracy. The country is now stable because they operate a democratic government.

 Economic Situation The economic situation in Mali is bad that majority of the people still depend on subsistence agriculture. There is high level of poverty, malnutrition, and illiteracy and under employment. Therefore the country is rated as one of the poorest countries of the world.

Religious Tolerance

Mali is a secular state with a Muslim majority, but with freedom of religious expression. They are open to churches to conduct their evangelistic activities in the country.
